Description

A spectacular Fireworks Galaxy, NGC 6946 located on the border of the constellations of Cepheus and Cygnus. NGC 6946 has a high rate of star formation and is a host to numerous supernovae. Because of the frequent supernova outbursts observed in NGC 6946 (with 10 supernovae detected over the last 100 years), it is often referred to as the "Fireworks Galaxy".

The galaxy was imaged over a few nights in July and August of 2021, right before the beginning and after the end of the Southwest monsoon season. This image is a combination of the LRGB and H-alpha exposures taken with the 250mm f/4 Lacerta Photonewton and ZWO ASI294MM Pro imaging camera:

L: 48x300s (Gain 0, bin 1x1)
R: 40x180s (Gain 108, bin 1x1)
G: 28x180s (Gain 108, bin 1x1)
B: 32x180s (Gain 108, bin 1x1)
Ha: 21x600s (Gain 200, bin 1x1)
Total exposure: 12.5 hours
